Florence Packing Company

Florence Packing Company was founded during the construction of Wilson Dam out of a need for sanitary slaughtering conditions and to meet the demand for meat from the influx of workers at the time. They emphasized eating local meat, and in the late 1950s, they bought more than $3,000,000 per year in livestock from Colbert & Lauderdale counties. Florence Packing did a variety of business with their 8 departments: buying, slaughtering, cutting, curing, sausage, tank house, hide, sales.
